Welcome
to
Spencer County Solid
Waste Management District (SWMD)
Who
We Are
The Spencer County
Solid Waste Management District was created in
1992 to establish environmental programs to
encourage recycling
and to divert solid waste in Spencer County,
Indiana from the landfill.
The District works to educate Spencer County
residents and businesses with information on
recycling programs.
What
We Do
The
Solid Waste District operates eight recycling drop-off facilities
in Spencer County with one site (Chrisney) set
up to accept large items. We may also have
solutions for many special waste/disposal
questions. The District provides educational
materials for schools and waste audits for
businesses within the county.

Recycling Challenge
"A Bench for Caps"
The
Solid Waste District is
partnering with Green Tree
Plastics, Inc. in Evansville to
offer "A Bench for
Caps" recycling challenge to all
elementary and middle schools in
Spencer County. From now
until
February 15, 2012 students will
collect metal-free plastic
bottle and jar caps. When
a school has collected 400 lbs.
of the caps they will be
exchanged for a FREE 6
foot bench made from 100%
recycled material. This
site will be updated
every Friday
beginning December 2, 2011 so
schools can track their
progress.
